Frequently asked questions
- What is PCT in the WTC points table?
- PCT is the percentage of available points a team has actually won. It equals points earned (after penalty deductions) divided by the maximum points from the matches played, times 100. A win is worth 12 points, a tie 6, a draw 4 and a loss 0.
- How many points is a draw worth in the WTC?
- A draw is worth 4 of the 12 available points, so a drawn Test contributes 33.33 PCT for that match. A tie (scores level, match finished) is worth 6 points.
- Why does the WTC use points percentage instead of total points?
- Teams play between 12 and 22 Tests in the 2025-27 cycle. Dividing by the maximum available points makes short and long schedules comparable.
- How do penalties change PCT?
- Penalty points are subtracted from points earned before dividing. Example: England's 14-point deduction turned 52 points from 13 Tests (33.33 PCT) into 38 points (24.36 PCT).
