Frequently asked questions
- Why did England lose WTC points?
- England were docked 2 points after the Lord's Test against India (July 2025) and 12 points after the Oval Test against New Zealand (June 2026), both for slow over rates. Their 14 penalty points are the most of any team in the 2025-27 cycle.
- How is a slow over-rate penalty calculated?
- Match referees deduct one WTC point per over a side is short of the required rate after time allowances. The players are also fined. The deduction applies to the table immediately when announced.
- Can deducted points be restored?
- Teams can contest over-rate charges before sanctions are confirmed, but once the ICC announces a WTC deduction it stands. This page tracks announcements, and any correction would be logged on our corrections page.
