WTC Tiebreaker Rules
When teams finish the 2025–27 league stage level on PCT, the ICC playing conditions break the tie in a fixed order. Here is that order, with the live numbers for every team.
1
Points percentage (PCT)
The primary ranking. Points after penalties divided by maximum available points.
2
Most series wins
The team that has won more series in the cycle ranks higher.
3
Away PCT
Points percentage in away matches only. Rewards winning in foreign conditions.
4
ICC Test rankings on 1 April 2027
The final fallback: the higher-ranked team on that date takes the spot.

Frequently asked questions
- What happens if two teams have the same PCT in the WTC?
- The team with more series wins in the cycle ranks higher. If still level, the higher away PCT wins. If still level, the ICC Men's Test Team Rankings as of 1 April 2027 decide.
- Has a WTC tiebreaker ever been needed?
- Not yet for a Final spot: every cycle so far has been decided on PCT alone. But with nine teams and small PCT gaps in 2025-27, the tiebreakers are closer to mattering than ever.
- Does a drawn series count as a series win?
- No. A series counts as won only if a team wins more Tests than its opponent in that series. Drawn and shared series give neither side a series win for tiebreak purposes.
